ABOUT

Emma Catherine Newbery is a journalist and audio storyteller whose work bounces among the realms of belief, compassion and community advocacy, delighting in their overlap and mutual sustenance. With particular focus on new religious expression and the evolution of cultural rites and rituals through time, Emma uses a narrative, conversation-based approach to expand and explode the meaning of ancient stories to meet the current moment. In her journalistic work, she often covers the rise and function of nationalism in the U.S. and important advances in criminal justice reform, particularly around the treatment of LGBTQIA+ individuals who are incarcerated in New England.

She is the creator and host of the podcasts All Alone With Something to Say, Breakout Sessions and others, all of which can be found on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Her writing has been published in Dig Boston, The Boston Hassle, Jewish Rhode Island, Kolture, through Kingston Gallery, and as part of the inaugural Peachy Poetry Zine.

She studied Religion and Anthropology at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME. She lives in Boston and loves the ducks there.
